Sharing is Caring

There was a story which I once heard from a senior, it is a true story that quite touches my heart. It was said to be happened in one of a children Buddhist Camp in Malaysia here. Most of those children participants are just about 5 to 12 years old participated in this Buddhist Camp which organized by university students. As usual Buddhist camp, there was a reverend invited to lead the Buddhist camp and to teach some teaching of the Buddha. To lead those children during the camp, those children were divided into groups and each group will be taking care by a university student, as mitra during the camp.

So, in this very camp, there was a special incident happened. During one of the meal time, the reverend restricted those mitras from taking their meal and told those children participant that their mitras can not eat the meals as there is no more food for them. This incident happened unexpectedly as those mitras, camp’s committee members and children felt shocked. As the relationship between mitras with their group quite close because they have played together in this camp before this event, something ‘touches heart’ acts showed by those children participant in their intuitions to help their mitras. What was happened actually is, with the natural feeling and without any instructions, automatically, each of those children sincerely shared out some of their foods to give to their mitras. The mitras were crying watching this incident as they feel very touched. Although I not be at that time watching this incident, I still can feel very touched by only hearing to this story.

Actually, from this incident, we can think back to ourselves, have we ever share out our belongings so sincerely, like those children, to help those who in need? From what I think, may be it ‘looks’ simple to do like those children but mostly we just stop at this ‘look’ level. When we have the chance to do this sharing, I think most of us could not do as sincere as those children. This happens only if we got the intention to share our things out, but there are many among us nowadays even not willing to offer their help towards those in need. Maybe we blamed on the development of our society nowadays which, care only to our own problems that causes this sad scene. But actually we should know that we can change this by starting to change and educate our inner self. We must know and be able to differentiate on what is right and what is wrong, and also what should we do and what we don’t, and we should not just follow blindly as being pulled by the development of the society. As a human, we have the ability called ‘humanitarism’ which makes us care about others beings and not selfish of our own selves, so let us use this ability wisely and please don’t waste this wonderful and special ability by keeping it just to ourselves.
